Mavericks has been accepting Bitcoin (BTC) payments via BitPay for almost two years . They were the second NBA team to start accepting BTC, after the Sacramento Kings.
In addition to DOGE and BTC, Mavericks fans can pay using Bitcoin Cash (BCH), USDC, GUSD, PAX and BUSD.
BitPay CEO Stephen Pair said they helped pave the way for the NBA team to adopt cryptocurrency :
"BitPay believes that as the prevalence of cryptocurrencies increases, it reaches a milestone that will forever change trust in the industry and pave the way for blockchain payments that will transform the investment or spending habits of consumers and businesses."
Mark Cuban, owner of Mavericks, confirmed the news and clarified his ideas to include DOGE payments:
"This is real. And why not buy it? Our payment gateways support it. We'll 'HODL' anything we get. And that's great PR, also fun!"
