January 03, 2019 | AtoZ Markets - Amid vague details in the case, a state senator in Georgia was recently reported to have been imprisoned, over allegations of filing a false alarm, in which he said a cryptocurrency mining equipment worth $300,000 was stolen from his premises, as per the reports published the last week.
Republican Michael Williams, had initially reported the alleged theft in last May, making false statements, as the court documents reveal.
In the claim, Williams reported that servers of a value $300,000, which was being used for mining a cryptocurrency the complaint paper did not name, vanished from his office premises without his awareness about that, as per the narrative of the local daily news outlet Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Dec. 20.
The complaint might have been filed as a cover for other things!
The current leaks say that there are chances prosecutors will agree on considering the complaint filed as never took place, following the three charges Williams was held accountable for, as the grand jury concluded.
Williams, who is under custody now, is waiting for a full verdict yet, with the prosecutor’s evidence not yet provided.
“Right now, our position is Mr. Williams did not do this,” the attorney, A.J. Richman, said Dec. 26, as local media outlets quoted.
“We’re not really apprised of their evidence yet. They haven’t disclosed that. I’m sure they will soon, but at this point, we don’t know what it is they’re saying other than what the indictment says.”, continued the attorney.
In his file, Williams was said to have previously co-sponsored a cryptocurrency payments bill for the Georgian Senate, while his campaigns were marked by a pronounced anti-immigrant policy featuring a “deportation bus”, in reference to Mexican immigrants that drew considerable condemnation in the public opinion.
