Russia Fines Google for Advertising eToro

Russia has once again fined Google LLC for advertising eToro, a brokerage firms that do not have the authorization to operate in the country.

September 8, 2021, | AtoZ Markets – For the fifth time in a year, the Moscow department of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) fined Google 200 thousand rubles (about $2,720) for advertising eToro (Europe) Ltd operating in Russia without a license from the Central Bank.

This was reported by the press service of the department.

The FAS considered the Google eToro advertisement to be unreliable, and also saw in it incorrect comparisons with goods from other manufacturers.

This is the fifth FAS fine for Google this year. Earlier, the company received four fines for 800 thousand rubles and has already paid this amount.

In April, the FAS filed a lawsuit against Google over the fact that the company “abuses its dominant position in the market for video hosting services YouTube.”

The case was opened due to the statement of the Regional Public Organization “Center for Internet Technologies”, which complained about the blocking of content and YouTube accounts. The FAS decided that the blocking rules “are opaque, biased and unpredictable.”
