16 January, AtoZForex – Are you using Telegram? This is an instant messaging service from the Russian social media VK.com founder, Pavel Durov. It appears that users of Telegram have reportedly received fake emails inviting them to take part in the launch of the Gram cryptocurrency. In addition, the email has mentioned the Telegram Open Network blockchain platform launch.
Gram ICO is a scam, Telegram CEO says
Following the fake emails, many users got interested in the opportunity to invest in the Gram ICO. However, the Telegram channel Kod Durova has stated that fake members of the Telegram Open Network (TON) team have been spreading the news about fake Gram cryptocurrency to selected users.
In fact, the scamsters have been offering users the Gram cryptocurrency at a price of 15 cents for coin. The criminals also reportedly have urged all those interested in the offer to visit the fake project’s website. The website was launched by anonymous users on January 6, 2018, according to the service of registration domain names.
The Telegram CEO has warned users against the scam in his response to one of the tweets:
Telegram plans to launch its own crypto?
In the beginning of the current year, some of the online media reports have been talking about the plans of Telegram to launch its own cryptocurrency. The news about third-generation Blockchain platform from Telegram was also appearing.
According to some of the reports, the company has anticipated to raise up to 500 million dollars in the pre-initial coin offering sale “at a potential total token value in the range of three billion dollars to five billion dollars.”
The official representatives of the Telegram have denied the Gram ICO project. Pavel Durov, the CEO of the Telegram has tweeted earlier in December 2017:
Attention: Telegram publishes its official announcements only at https://telegram.org . Everything else is most likely scam.
We have reached out to Pavel Durov for the official commentary on the case and are currently awaiting the response.
