The main threat to medical institutions is the Trickbot ransomware, which cybercriminals are constantly improving.

“What started as a banking Trojan and a descendant of the Dyre malware now provides operators with a complete set of tools to carry out a myriad of illegal activities, including credential harvesting, mining, data theft and the deployment of ransomware such as Ryuk,” the statement said.

According to some reports, Russian hackers are behind Trickbot.

Recall that recently, many US medical institutions have already been subjected to cyber attacks. In September, one of the largest US hospital networks, Universal Health Services, fell victim to a massive attack.

In October, it became known about the international operation to neutralize Trickbot. It was attended by experts from Microsoft, ESET, NTT, Black Lotus Labs, and others. Presumably, the US military was involved in the operation to disable the botnet.
