March 22, 2021 | AtoZ Markets – Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first footballer to be awarded cryptocurrency for career success. The Juventus FC star received 770 JUV fan tokens for every goal he scored during his professional football career, according to Spanish news outlet Marca.
JUV, the official fan token of Juventus, was launched in 2019 on the Chiliz (CHZ) blockchain network and in collaboration with the Socios.com platform. Fan tokens give team supporters the chance to vote on club decisions and participate in various competitions.
The value of the 770 JUV given to Ronaldo is $11,750, with the current price of $15.26. JUV trades at $2 when it is first launched.
While the Juventus star will not need this money anytime soon, it is important in that it is the first cryptocurrency award to a player. The growing connection between sports and cryptocurrencies has led some clubs to consider paying players partially or entirely in cryptocurrencies.
Many football clubs around the world have created their own fan tokens on the Chiliz blockchain. Among these clubs are Manchester City, AC Milan, FC Barcelona, and İstanbul Başakşehir.
Chiliz's own token, CHZ, was also not indifferent to this interest. The value of the token increased by 2,500% in 2021 alone.
