Brisbane Airport will accept cryptocurrency payments
The cryptocurrency market is paving the way for numerous startups that mostly look into incorporating cryptocurrencies in our everyday lives. One of such platforms, TravelbyBit, is aiming to get merchants from all around Australia to accept crypto payments via their payment system.
The reports state that Brisbane airport is about to collaborate with TravelbyBit to create virtual currency terminal. The official website of the airport states that via this partnership, a number of stores will be able to use TravelbyBit’s payments system to accept cryptocurrencies. The planned cryptocurrencies to be included in the project are Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Dash, and Steem.
The General Manager of Strategic Planning and Development, Roal Hellemons, has stated:
“Many people around the world have made money investing in cryptocurrencies, and a lot of these people travel internationally. So, it makes sense to offer a digital currency experience within our terminals. We’re also proud to be the first airport in the world to achieve this in partnership with a small local start-up business such as TravelbyBit, whose pioneering thinking is drawing attention to Brisbane as a serious breeding ground of innovation.”
Furthermore, Mr. Hellemons also stated that he believes that this is just the first step in widening the reach of cryptocurrencies to other areas of the airport:
“This is just the beginning for us as we hope to expand the digital currency option across the business, so watch this space.”
Australia is Open to Crypto
The CEO of TravelbyBit, Caleb Yeoh, has mentioned that the tourism industry is one of the best sectors to explore the benefits of cryptocurrencies. He has commented:
“We are building a genuine use case for cryptocurrencies in the tourism industry. The application of digital currencies in this sector makes a lot of sense.
Whenever you travel overseas you have to deal with multiple currencies and you never know what exchange rates the banks are charging you. Here at TravelbyBit, we are promoting the Bitcoin travel movement. Digital currency for world-wide travel. It’s simple, safe and there’s no bank fees.”
This case appears as one of the numerous instances when Australia has endorsed the cryptocurrency industry. The initiative also shows that the country has the potential to become of the of the leading nations in cryptocurrency development.
