Blockchain PS4 Game to See Light Soon

Sony has approved a game for PlayStation 4 with a built-in Ethereum-based marketplace system. How do PS4 Game Plague Hunters Work?

November 22, 2018 | AtoZ Markets – Arcade Distillery, a video game development and publishing company founded in 2015 that creates titles for PS Vita, PlayStation 4 (PS4), Xbox One as well as Nintendo Switch, is gearing up to launch a new game for the PS4 known as Plague Hunters. This new game is built around the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain.

The game represents an important milestone in blockchain gaming. The upcoming PS4 game, Plague Hunters, although not a big budget project, has passed Sony’s review process and will become the world’s first blockchain-powered PlayStation game to be available on a major gaming console.

How do Blockchain PS4 Game Plague Hunters Work?

The company behind Plague Hunters, Arcade Distillery will be making use of the Ethereum blockchain and will issue a non-fungible crypto token. The token will be used to trade in-game items, such as weapons or units, on a marketplace.

Plague Hunters is a turn-based role-playing game (RPG) that focuses on single player experience but also features some online PvP elements. A spiritual successor to Plague Road, Plague Hunters will be free-to-play.

Thanks to blockchain, the marketplace will be transparent, all transactions are verifiable, and peer-to-peer (P2P). This means that the game’s economy will belong to its participants and not to Arcade Distillery.

Like other blockchain games, it looks like Plague Hunter’s in-game assets, including units, weapons, and other items, will be pegged to NFTs. The description of the Plague Hunters on the company’s website reads:

“Build your army of hunters. Train them and prepare them or battle. Trade your hunters on the blockchain-based marketplace with other players.”

Advisor Liam Glennon, the Chief technology officer at Aevolve technologies has been quoted as saying:

“CryptoKitties has demonstrated the power of NFTs but there’s little utility in browser games…But bringing blockchain to the console audience provides the catalyst.”

Plague Hunters is slated for release in Q1 2019. Arcade Distillery reveals that it will later be releasing Plague Hunters on Nintendo Switch and PC versions while exploring mobile and Xbox One as additional platform options.

Blockchain-Based Card Games

It seems that the gaming industry is coming round to the benefits of integrating blockchain technology in video games more generally. Earlier in November, the Coinbase-backed card game Gods Unchained released its gameplay trailer.

The game was inspired by popular titles like Magic: the Gathering and Hearthstone. It will also feature blockchain-based assets, however, the gameplay will happen on the creator’s “Fuel Games’ servers.

Last Sunday, Mythical Games gaming studio also announced that it had received $16 million in funding to create an EOS blockchain-based game.
