AxiTrader website outage


28 October, AtoZForex.com, Lagos – The scenario of broker outages and cyber attacks has occurred again in what seems to be developing into a recent industry trend. This time, AxiTrader, an Australian broker was the victim of an outage which lasted several hours on Tuesday, the 27th of October. The situation affected its clients in terms of being unable to log in to their accounts for a few hours. However, the outage did not preclude clients from making withdrawal or deposits.

Microsoft Azure platform interruption

Clarifying the case, AxiTrader stated that the Microsoft Azure platform it is utilising, had a ‘Partial Service Interruption. The interruption is reported to last for about five hours, which occurred between 10:51 to 15:44 UTC (late evening Sydney time), inflicting AxiTrader website outage.

According to initial investigation conducted by Microsoft, the outage resulted from a planned deployment for a network configuration change. However, an excerpt from the official statement of the broker goes thus:

AxiTrader, along with thousands of other websites were affected by a Microsoft hosting issue in their South East Asia data center for approximately 5 hours. This affected users trying to access our public website. MT4 as well as the majority of other internal systems and procedures were not affected during this time. We will be investigating with Microsoft and reviewing our redundancy measures going forward. We had no issues with any of our Funding or Withdrawal systems over this time, we have been processing all Client Withdrawal requests to the highest level of service that AxiTrader’s clients expect.

MT4 connectivity issues

The management of AxiTrader took this opportunity to also clarify an unrelated outage in its Retail MT4 offering, which occurred before the incident with Microsoft Azure platform. Particularly, this case was linked to a technical issue at one of AxiTrader’s Internet Service Providers in the US.

AxiTrader explains further that: “This incident caused MT4 connectivity issues for a large number of non VPS Clients who access our offering over the Internet. We take this matter extremely seriously as at AxiTrader we pride ourselves on offering an exceptional Trading Experience for our Clients. We would also like to stress that our Institutional offerings were not impacted during this time.”
